Description and fund objective

iShares J.P. Morgan $ EM Bond UCITS ETF tracks the issuer-declared index: J.P. Morgan Emerging Markets Bond Index Global Diversified Core. Mind the share class: this is the version hedged to Mexican Peso (MXN) — returns reflect the index plus the effect (and cost) of hedging into that currency. The declared annual cost (TER) is 0.50%, plus 0.01% in transaction costs estimated by the issuer in the KID. Replication is optimised physical replication (the KID declares optimisation techniques to achieve a return similar to the index); income is accumulated and reinvested in the fund. The fund has assets of about 289 million euro, was launched on 31 August 2018 and is domiciled in Ireland.

The fund’s objective — in the issuer’s words

The Share Class is a share class of a Fund which aims to achieve a return on your investment, through a combination of capital growth and income on the Funds’ investments, which reflects the return of the J.P. Morgan EMBI Global Core Index, the Fund’s benchmark index (Index).

Keep reading the KID section ▾

The Share Class, via the Fund is passively managed and aims to invest so far as possible and practicable in fixed income (FI) securities (such as bonds) that make up the Index. The Index measures the performance of actively traded US Dollar denominated FI securities in emerging market countries. The Index offers exposure to US Dollar denominated sovereign and quasi-sovereign entities from emerging markets countries. Quasi-sovereign entities are entities, the securities of which are either 100% owned by their respective governments or subject to a 100% guarantee that does not rise to the level constituting the full faith and credit by such governments. Only FI securities with a minimum remaining time to maturity (i.e. the time until they become due for repayment) of two and a half years and a minimum amount outstanding of USD 1 billion are included in the Index. The FI securities in the Index include investment grade (i.e. meet a specified level of creditworthiness), subinvestment grade securities (i.e. have a relatively low credit rating credit or are unrated but deemed to be of comparable quality with sub-investment grade FI securities) or securities in default. The Fund uses optimising techniques to achieve a similar return to its Index. These may include the strategic selection of certain securities that make up the Index or other FI securities which provide similar performance to certain constituent securities. These may also include the use of financial derivative instruments (FDIs) (i.e. investments the prices of which are based on one or more underlying assets). FDIs may be used for direct investment purposes. The Fund may also engage in short-term secured lending of its investments to certain eligible third parties to generate additional income to off-set the costs of the Fund. Recommendation: This Fund is suitable for medium to long term investment, though the Fund may also be suitable for shorter term exposure to the Index.

Your shares will be accumulating shares (i.e. income will be included in their value). The Fund’s base currency is US Dollar. Shares for this Share Class are denominated in Mexican Peso. The performance of your shares may be affected by this currency difference. Your shares will be “hedged” with the aim of reducing the effect of exchange rate fluctuations between their denominated currency and the Fund’s underlying portfolio currencies. FDIs, including FX forward contracts, will be used for currency hedging purposes. The hedging strategy may not completely eliminate currency risk and, therefore, may affect the performance of your shares. The shares are listed on one or more stock exchanges and may be traded in currencies other than their base currency. The performance of your shares may be affected by this currency difference. In normal circumstances, only authorised participants (e.g. select financial institutions) may deal in shares (or interests in shares) directly with the Fund. Other investors can deal in shares (or interests in shares) daily through an intermediary on stock exchange (s) on which the shares are traded. Indicative net asset value is published on relevant stock exchanges websites.

Accumulating class: income is reinvested inside the fund and already reflected in the NAV; no distribution is left out of the chart.
Calculations on the NAV: issuer total-return series incomplete.
Note — currency risk: the fund is denominated (or hedged) in MXN and the chart is in MXN. For a euro investor, returns also depend on the EUR/MXN exchange rate, up or down.
Currency-hedged share class: our figures are computed on the issuer’s NAV, where the hedge is applied at the daily fixing. NAV and exchange prices can differ, so comparison sites using the price may show different returns and volatility: any specific gap can only be judged by comparing the series, dates and method used. Details in the methodology.
Tip: drag across the chart to zoom into a period.

Drawdown — distance from previous peak

Method and sources

Source: iShares. Issuer-declared historical series; inflation: Eurostat and national statistical institutes, latest available August 2026 — for later days the index stays at the last published value (institutes publish with a few weeks’ lag). The «adjusted for inflation» view expresses value in today’s purchasing power for the selected country; volatility always stays nominal, as elsewhere on the site (deflating it would add artificial swings caused by the monthly cadence of the price index). Past performance is not indicative of future results: these are facts, not a recommendation.

Rejoined series: the issuer’s historical data contains a unit redenomination (20 December 2018), not retroactively adjusted; we rejoined the earlier history to make it comparable. Returns and risk are computed on the rejoined series.

Tracking difference — fund vs index

We do not publish a tracking difference for this share class — and it is not an oversight.

EMBMXX is hedged to MXN; the index the issuer places next to it in its documents is the unhedged, foreign-currency version. Subtracting one from the other does not measure replication quality: it measures the exchange rate. In a year when the currency moves 5%, “the TD” would come out near 5 points — a plausible-looking number, with decimals, and wrong.

Other sites publish that number. We would rather show one figure less than one figure wrong: the TD will return here the day we have the MXN-hedged index series, which the issuer does not publish today.

Still want to know how well this fund tracks its index? Look at the unhedged sister class, JPEA, where fund and index share the same currency: its TD is the right measure of the management, which is the same. Go to the JPEA page →

Exchanges are taken from the official ESMA register (FIRDS) and, where FIRDS does not cover the exchange (London, Zurich) or does not record the current listing, from the issuers’ product lists and documents: the “Exchange source” column says so row by row. Each exchange is a single row, with all its markets and segments. Tickers come from the issuers’ product lists and tax documents or, where indicated, from ISIN→exchange mapping under the open FIGI standard (OpenFIGI). Activity on a dark book, an auction or an ancillary platform does not prove a listing on the exchange that operates it. Rebalix mainly covers venues in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom: when the issuer declares current listings in other jurisdictions too, they appear with their source, outside the ESMA register perimeter. Terminated or cancelled listings are not shown. The same fund may trade in different currencies depending on the exchange: check the trading currency with your broker.
