The Vanguard Group

Vanguard, founded in Pennsylvania in 1975 by John C. Bogle, invented the index fund for the general public. Its structure is unique: in the US the company is owned by its own funds — hence by investors — and profits flow back as lower fees, not to outside shareholders.

What sets it apart. Its minimum-cost philosophy sparked the “fee war” that lowered prices across the industry. In Europe the range is Irish-domiciled: the milestones are the FTSE All-World (VWCE) and the LifeStrategy multi-asset family, the reference for lazy portfolios — we analysed them in depth.
