Franklin Templeton was founded in New York in 1947 by Rupert Johnson Sr., who named it after Benjamin Franklin, a symbol of prudent saving. Today it is headquartered in California, listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: BEN) and among the world’s largest independent asset managers, expanded in 2020 by the acquisition of Legg Mason. Its UCITS ETF range, domiciled in Ireland (an ICAV vehicle), launched in September 2017 and is listed on Europe’s main exchanges, including Borsa Italiana.
What sets it apart. The range has two souls: index-tracking ETFs on single countries (India, China, Taiwan, Korea…) and a growing set of ACTIVELY managed ETFs, mostly in fixed income — including a euro government green bond fund classified Article 9 under SFDR. For active funds, the benchmark shown in our pages is a yardstick for comparison, not an index being tracked.
