Avantis Investors was born in Los Angeles in 2019 within American Century Investments (Kansas City, 1958), founded by Eduardo Repetto and Patrick Keating, former senior leaders of Dimensional Fund Advisors. A rare ownership trait: American Century’s controlling shareholder is the Stowers Institute for Medical Research — a sizeable share of profits funds medical research (over $2 billion donated since 2000); Japan’s Nomura holds a minority stake. The Irish UCITS range launched in September 2024.
What sets it apart. These are systematically ACTIVE ETFs with passive-like costs: no index to replicate, but a persistent overweight of stocks trading at low prices relative to fundamentals and with high profitability (the “factors” of Fama-French academic research), free to trade when prices are favourable rather than on index rebalancing days.
